I have been a Reiki practitioner since 2001. I had my first attunement in October 2000 and after experiencing the benefits of Reiki at first hand I completed my second attunement in September 2001, in order to become a practitioner. In 2002 my 20 year old cat 'Champers' was diagnosed with a malignant melanoma on his nose. I was told there was nothing that could be done as he was too old and the melanoma was too far advanced, however Champers was not ready to give up. As the wound on his nose got progressively worse I took him to the vet who told me Champers life expectancy was very short - in fact he thought he might have to put him down the following week as he couldn't do anything else for him. When I got home, as I was wondering what else I could do for him he jumped up and sat on my lap, which was unlike him, as he wasn't really a lap cat. It slowly dawned on me that he was there because I needed to give him Reiki. He stayed with me for two hours - This was an exceptional amount of time as a cat will usually take between 20 and 40 minutes Reiki. The same thing happened the following day, and by the end of the weekend the wound was clean, had healed over, and the smell of decay that was always there had gone. When I took him back to the vet he was absolutely amazed and had no medical explanation for the improvement. Naturally there were relapses in the the months that followed, as he was very old, but with a combination of surgery to clean and stitch the wound and regular Reiki, Champers was still able to enjoy life. He lived on for nearly a year after the vet had given up on him, and finally passed away at the age of 21.

I am absolutely convinced and certain that the regular Reiki treatments extended his life until he was ready to go.

It was after Champers died that I realised how important Reiki is for animals and that every animal can benefit from it's healing properties. I feel passionately about Reiki and I look forward to the day that doctors and vets provide a Reiki practitioners name in addition to prescriptions.
