Reiki can be used for all types of illnesses and injuries in animals. It can calm animals that are nervous and be soothing and comforting to an animal in pain or recuperating from surgery. Reiki is gentle and can be done either hands on, or from a distance. The healer is a transmitter of healing energy to which animals are particularly responsive, as they have no preconceptions and as a result put no mental blocks in the way. They understand the energy and it's benfits immediately, and some will come looking for it when they feel they need it. Animals that are too aggressive or wild can be treated effectively with distant healing. Reiki brings a wonderful emotional healing following trauma, abuse, neglect, fear and trust issues, and brings peace to even the most damaged spirit. Reiki induces deep relaxation and reduces stress. Over time it can reduce the anxiety whichcreates stress for highly strung or nervous animals. It has the ability to repair physical illness and injury in animals. When offered before surgery Reiki can reduce complications caused by the increase in chemicals created by stress and after surgery or illness it can greatly reduce recovery time.

The treatment usually begins a short distance away from the animal so they can get accustomed tothe feel of the energy, and to build trust - the animal will always decide how much Reiki they want. Some treatments will be hands on, but sometimes the animal will choose to sit away from the healer. They will still receive the benefit of the Reiki wherever they are.
